Accessibility Relation and Nonmonotonic Reasoning ( Extended

چکیده
By studying the accessibility relations in logics of knowledge and belief, we reveal that almost all prominent nonmonotonic reasoning semantics can be characterized in terms of standard Kripke structures by altering the accessibility relation. This result not just extends the expressive power of the Kripke structure but also clearly demonstrates that the nonmonotonic reasoning is a reasoning about implicit belief and therefore can be characterized by various logics of belief.

A modal perspective on defeasible reasoning
We introduce various new supraclassical entailment relations for defeasible reasoning and investigate some of their relationships. The contrapositive of the usual nonmonotonic preferential entailment turns out to be a monotonic supraclassical entailment. Analogously to these two, a nonmonotonic and its contrapositive monotonic supraclassical entailment can be defined by using modal operators re...
متن کاملOn Combinatorial Possible Worlds
Combinatorial worlds can be used to give an account of necessity and possibility. Both accessibility and similarity between worlds can be deened. In this paper, we claim that combinatorial worlds can form a knowledge representation framework, and provide an interesting approach to nonmonotonic reasoning and belief revision. We investigate such aspects of the combinatorial worlds framework as co...
متن کاملProperties of maximal cliques of a pair-wise compatibility graph for three nonmonotonic reasoning system
In this paper we define the notion of a compatibility relation so as to have a common framework for three nonmonotonic reasoning systems: normal logic programming, extended logic programming, and a restricted form of default logic. We show some properties of the maximal cliques of the pair-wise compatibility graph givn by the relation between the rules of the various reasoning systems. Properti...
متن کاملNonmonotonic Skeptical Consequence Relation in Constrained Default Logic
This paper presents a study of the nonmonotonic consequence relation which models the skeptical reasoning formalised by constrained default logic. The nonmonotonic skeptical consequence relation is defined using the sequent calculus axiomatic system. We study the formal properties desirable for a “good” nonmonotonic relation: supraclassicality, cut, cautious monotony, cumulativity, absorption, ...
متن کاملA Probabilistic Interpretation for Lazy Nonmonotonic Reasoning
This paper presents a formal relationship Ken Satoh Generation Computer Technology Minato-ku, Tokyo 108, Japan [email protected] for . probability theory and a class of nonmonotomc reasoning which we call daxy nonmonotonic reusoning. In lazy nonmonotonic reasoning, nonmonotonicity emerges only when new added knowledge is contradictory to the previous belief. In this paper, we consider nonmonotonic...
